Video conferencing and telepresence threats to business tourism
I leave a summary of one of the points of my thesis, which I’ve been working this last month, I hope to find you interesting.
The truth is that they have always taught me that threats can be converted into opportunities, but in this case, not be very well and give the back. really believe that videoconferencing and Telepresence are a key point in the evolution of the coporate travel or tourism negocio:
The emergence of new technologies in the tourism sector has caused significant variations in the consumption habits of tourists.
In particular, the emergence of Internet in the business travel market has radically transformed enterprises that has been implanted, to the emergence of new models of communication.
Videoconference on physical presence
Tools as videoconferencing are imposed currently as key instruments in the process of intercommunication, giving rise to a reduction in business travel, allowing that keep producing commercial transactions, meetings, courses, etc, avoiding such displacements.
Video presents great advantages over the traditional models of communication by allowing a: immediately and contact in real time between different work teams, reduction of costs such as airline tickets, hotels and diets, and better optimization of the time.
This trend of the use of videoconferencing is a serious threat of future for business trips, since many companies begin to replace the travel of its employees for virtual meetings, even though there are many organizations that recognize that face-to-face meetings have more chances of success given the interaction and empathy that can generate among the participantsIn addition to emphasizing that saving money is something relative, because for a virtual meeting with certain guarantees required of quality devices, screens, cameras, microphones, high-speed lines, rooms equipped for that purpose and isolated from the usual noise of work, etc., and proper maintenance of these devices.
The business trips, in the doldrums
Social and psychological changes of the consumer of business tourism, have also positively affected the use of new technologies in the field of virtual meetings. Currently, the business trip is already not organized with luxury and detail that was done in the past. The lines of low-cost, small rooms, cheap hotels are characteristics of most of the reservations that are made from the business field, with the consequent reduction of the length of stay of tourists to relax or visit the destination. This United many tourists of business are not a direct relationship between displacement and profitability, makes that many companies prefer the use of videoconferencing for certain meetings, combining, in many cases, videoconferencing and face-to-face meetings, thus obtaining the benefit of both communication tools.
Currently, videoconferencing is being replaced by Telepresence. Telepresence is a solution of video communication that allows people in multiple locations, far between, interact as if they were face to face, and makes it to providing quality video and audio, as well as collaboration tools that allow users focus on meeting and not on the technology.
Telepresence, the substitute
Telepresence, therefore, recreates the feeling of sitting virtually with the participants of a meeting regardless of the geographic location of the same.
Telepresence is configured as an essential tool of communication in companies. In this sense, the CISCO 2010 report concludes that the benefits of the application of new technologies are:
- Visibility of business projects.
- Improved remote communications.
- Reduction of work trips.
- To maintain the activity in the event of interruptions.
- Optimization of the work group.
- Cost savings.
- Avoid misunderstandings,
- Promotion of competitive advantage.
Other benefits associated with Telepresence would be, a greater respect for the environment, increase in productivity, a better balance between work and personal life, the rapprochement between people, a greater focus on operations and more efficient business processes.
Temporary video barriers
Currently, the main barriers to entry for the adoption of video collaboration tools are: not knowing its benefits, lack of budget, lack of experience, the additional costs to continue the investment, the lack of broadband infrastructure and the cost of implementation. However they are only barriers to entry, and it is a matter of time that requirements of the market become a spiral qeu oblige employers to the East type of media to close a business.
