Tourism employment rose 45 in january
Tourism employment – measured in number of workers discharged in Social Security – it increased 4.5% in January, up 1.91 million, according to final data released by the Subdirectorate-General for knowledge and tourism studies, the Ministry of industry, energy and tourism-dependent.
This growth is explained mainly by the recovery of employees, which increased by 5.4%, up to 1.45 million members, compared with 1.6% self-employed, that add 460.848 people.
In hotels and travel agencies, affiliates grew by 5.1% in the first month of the year annual rate, up to 1.3 million workers, thanks to the increase of 6.6% of employees (977.129 people) and 1% of the self-employed (332.000).
By branches of activity, the busy in travel agencies and tour operators grew 5.3% over the same month of the previous year, to persons 49.028.
The biggest upturn experienced in this area employees in catering (food and drink) services, whose affiliation to Security Social increased 5.6%, to 1.05 million people.
Affiliates in accommodation services grew by 2.7%, up to the affiliates 207.600.
Employment tourism by geographical areas
by communities, the greater specific weight in the sector builds up 6.6% increases in the Valencian Community, from 6.6% in Murcia, from 6.2% in Andalusia, from 6.3% in the Balearic Islands, from 5.5% in Catalonia, from 5.4% in Extremadura and 5.2% in the community of Madrid.
All regions recorded increases affiliate in hotels and travel agencies, which included Canary ( 4.6%), Navarre ( 45), Galicia ( 3.4%), Basque country ( 4.3%) and La Rioja ( 4.3%).
