Schiphol airport canceled all its flights for a blackout

The international of Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, has announced the cancellation of all flights scheduled due to power failure affecting the region. All planes bound for Amsterdam will be diverted to other airports.

“We are experiencing many problems due to the blackout,” explained a spokeswoman for Schiphol, the fourth airport in Europe.

TennetT electric company reported an overload in the network that has caused this outage, affecting a large part of the region of North Holland and the region of Flevoland. The origin of the problem is in an electrical substation of high voltage in the District of Diemen, in Amsterdam, reports Dutch news agency ANP.

Initially was launched from Schiphol Airport emergency supply to make up for the lack of conventional current. However, eventually the airport authorities have been forced to cancel all flights.

Blackout has also caused cancellations on trains and road traffic has been affected by the lack of illumination of streetlights.

Public television has informed us that the hospitals in the region are operating with emergency generators.
