International Prize for a thesis that explores the tourist image of Catalonia 2.0 on Internet
A doctoral thesis Estela Mariné Roig , under the supervision of Salvador Anton Clavé , has been awarded the ‘Thesis Excellence Award for a Doctoral Thesis’ of the International Federation for Information Technologies and Travel & Tourism (IFITT). The work has been honored for his “innovative, scientific rigor and relevance in the field of tourism”.
The thesis has been developed as part of the PhD Program in Tourism and Leisure Universitat Rovira i Virgili .
The work is called “From the Projected to the Transmitted image: 2.0 The construction of tourist destination image and identity in Catalonia”.
The thesis ( http://www.tdx.cat/handle/10803/135006 ) explores the images projected and perceived online in Catalonia . Scan this online image sources (blogs, travel reviews and official tourism web pages) and focuses on the role of content generated by online users and the image transmitted by the Internet, in the process of formation and propagation of the image the destination.
From the research for the thesis were generated several academic publications, some being published, including articles in scientific journals as the Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change and the Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing .
The International Federation for Information Technologies and Travel & Tourism is the global community of researchers, academics and professionals who leads the discussion, exchange and development of global knowledge on the use and impact of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in travel industry, tourism and experiences.
The award was presented during the ‘ENTER PhD Workshop 2015’, an event held in Lugano, Switzerland, on February 3 ENTER Congress during 2015, the annual event for the community IFITT .
The winning thesis defended in December 2013 at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and scored valuation Excellent Cum Laude .
Estela Mariné is a member of the research group Territorial Analysis and Tourism Studies (Gratet) coordinated by Salvador Anton Clavé at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and teacher in the Bachelor of Tourism at the University of Lleida.
